Gogol "the Government Inspector" radio & TV play

Post by Gmemg » Tue Dec 12, 2017 3:21 pm

I spent a pleasant couple of hours to - day listening to a very good radio production of "the Government Inspector" by NV Gogol - a wonderful story of corruption in small town Russia - everyone in Authority is concerned following reports of a Government inspector in the area so when a penniless but plausible stranger appears they fall over themselves to assist him ..................

the radioplay is a bit disappointing with some performances poorer than others but it's faithful to the text - Geoffrey palmer plays Ossip the "inspector's" servant and seems to have taken lessons from Kenny !

and here's a version from Tv from 1958 with Tony Hancock as the Inspector with an appearance by Wilfred Brambell - it's very poor quality but a good version of the play

well worth listening & watching on a cold afternoon
