Here's today's random record. I'm picking a disc from my shelves every day from now til new year, having no idea what it is until I record it!
This is an odd one. Vocalion A0170, Giuseppe Lenghi-Cellini and George Baker sing Solenne in quest'ora from Forza del destino, and the other side is explanatory notes and starts several inches into the side, I thought this was single sided when I first looked for a second!
here's the aria: https://picosong.com/wg9Lm
and the notes

Those Vocalion and Aeolian Vocalion records are MOST odd - I recall the first one i found and thought it might be some sort of Advertising record as i couldn't understand why anyone would want to by an operatic record and then have it explained to them on the other side !

then i found some Diamond Discs and assumed the idea came form them BUT they were for Yanks, i don't believe the idea lasted long as the Aeolian & AV records with the explanations are not that common compared with the normal 2 sided records

I thought that one quite entertaining, the narrator sounds like he's reading a script he has no idea about!

He does - and they're all like that - i often think they just grabbed the nearest Newspaper seller off the street and had him read the script I also often wonder how many times those "explanatory Notes" sides have been played ? but then i really need to stay in more (and become a CLPGS member - ED)
