"Betjeman's Banana Blush" 1974 Album

Post by Gmemg » Tue Dec 12, 2017 3:42 pm

In 1974 Jim Parker produced an Album of Poetry - he had set a selection of Sir John Betjeman's Poems to music - idiosyncratic music it has to be said but undoubtedly appropriate - oddly it became a very popular album and often featured on John peel's Radio show , goodness knows wha some of HIS listeners made of this

here's a Radio 4 extra programme celebrating the labum with some long extracts from the records

Wealth without work. Pleasure without conscience. Knowledge without character .Commerce without morality. Science without humanity. Worship without sacrifice. Politics without principle.

Money. Greed. Naivety. Falsehoods. Exploitation. Welcome to the wonderful world of gramophones!
